Just fired it up. I am genuinely excited for this. 1) Cool to see Claire Rogers get a shot on the pod. 2) Home Alone was my comfort movie as a little kid. Having little ones now and seeing them fixated on a certain thing or show as their routine. Mine was Home Alone for the better part of a year when I was 6-7, I wanted to watch it every day after school.
I really enjoyed this pod. I’m a die hard Home Alone guy, so much so that I don’t really mind 3. As far as Home Sweet Home Alone goes, kinda stinks, kids would probably like it. BUT we do get a modern day Buzz sighting. @Tron I know you were interested in what he turned into. There’s also a little easter egg that shows what Kevin has been up to all these years.
Love the subject matter. Idk why, but felt like the actual pod lacked a little juice. Nonetheless, I was really excited to wake up and see that one and be able to listen straight away! The Home Alone house is one of my Lego bucket lists.
Showing an AA DC-10 leaving ORD but then showing an AA 757 landing at CDG always gets inside my craw. Plus the whole leaving ORD at 11:45 am in order to arrive at CDG at 2 am is a non-starter for reality.
My favorite bit of Home Alone minutiae is that if Marv walked through the door with the blowtorch instead of Harry it would have completely melted his face off.
This was a decent pod but I kept wanting it to be The Rewatchables (Ringer Network Pod). You don’t realize how good that one is until you listen to the imitation.
I both really enjoyed the way KVV used themes from the movie to drive discussion while also wanting it to be more of Rewatchables style. Tough needle to thread
Watched it with my kid after listening to the pod, and even though it’s probably the 10th time I’ve seen it, this is the first time I noticed that they threw away Kevin’s ticket in the kitchen scene.
@KVV , @Tron - Peter McAllister was Isiah Thomas’s agent. This explains the poster, Isiah’s 100% Chicago ethos, and the ability to fly a family of 7 to Paris during the 1990 recession.
I don’t think sports agents were making “fly your big family to Paris” money. Isaiah Thomas made $2.7 million in the 1990-1991 season. I think agents get 5-10%, so assuming Peter had one other big name and a few other middling names, he’s only making $500,000/year. In 1990, that was good money, but I’m not sure it’s McMansion in Winnetka fly the family to Paris with yourself and your wife in first class money.
That’s $1,150,000 in today’s dollars. Although airline tickets were relatively more expensive then, this seems like a salary range that would pull that move.
