Trap Draw: Orlando

Gas tax is a disgrace. How hard is it to tie shit to inflation, Congress?

Buffett has lost his fastball. Stock picks have trailed the market for many years now. And the deeper you dig, the less credibility his folksy charm has. He hasn’t actually lived in that house in Omaha for 30 years, he resides primarily in a $30 million Newport Beach mansion. Also the dude’s domestic “arrangement” is, uh, non-traditional.

Munger is a far more interesting dude.

Need an entire pod on the disgrace that is the Orlando airport.

I flew in and out of that airport 3x a month pre-covid. My flights out were always a breeze, always early, always Delta, and I have Clear.

Coming back from business trips it was a fucking disaster. Friday nights at MCO are a hellscape.

This is not an attack at @BillyWalters it just happens to be the last straw for me (and I’m drinking). Why the fuck do we have different threads for each Trap Draw? Where are the damn mods when we need them most?? Where’s @3wiggle ??

Flaskey definitely still screams smarmy sales gui, but he gets points for coming on the show and being a good sport, but especially (from the sounds of things) actually taking Randy’s critique to heart and making some changes in the presentation of next year’s event. Although long winded, I thought his explanation of how the event got started and eventually became a premier event for the LPGA was interesting. He gave some context I knew in the back of my head existed about how and why keeping the sponsors happy is so critical, especially for the LPGA. The fact that he had a card to play (tv ratings) and was able to sell Whan, not the other way around, is a win for the LPGA on the whole. They need the money and exposure, and here they had a warm lead who was willing to give it to them without Whan needing to do a hard sell to get there.

Good on Flaskey for putting his money into supporting the LPGA and good on him for being willing to make it better.

Wasn’t crazy about the #freeads for Diamond Resorts but that was always gonna be part of having the CEO of a tournament title sponsor on, and I don’t blame him for making his timeshare pitch on the show. Always be closing…

Would have liked to see Randy take this approach when he came across Rickie Fowler in Scotland

Used to take a golf trip to Orlando each spring and now have to go to a conference there each year (thank you Covid for canceling). Airport is a total disaster. Might be worse than O’Hare. Been stuck there for hours and still have not found a decent bite to eat.

I know this doesnt apply to many people but Ocala isnt just a horse area… its the HORSE MECA for the months of January and February… my wife does 3 day eventing (Dressage, show jumping, cross country) and she has friends that will live in their trailers for weeks at a time to train and compete with Olympic riders. Some of the top professionals will move to Ocala in November and stay through mid May then move back up north to finish the year… Eventers either have stupid money or stupid debt…

Drove through Ocala in December on our way to and from Naples. My wife had no idea about Ocala’s place in the horse world and was stunned by the miles and miles of horse country.

Before we had a kid my wife spent a week down there… she would love to take the whole month and train but I (and her work) wont let her for a few more years lol

The expense of the horse game is absolutely staggering.

This was mentioned early in the pod but does anyone else have “getting kicked out of a little league game” story?

My pops got booted from our bronco league sectional championship game (1996, I was 12).

Our star pitcher ended the top of the 1st inning by strikeout looking and threw his helmet and bat to the dugout for the bat boy. The home plate umpire gave him the immediate heave ho with zero warning.

My 6 foot 8, 240 lb father/assistant coach in full team uniform (light blue shirt, white pants halfway down his calves, and dark blue stirrups) came sprinting out of the dugout and proceeded to berate the 5 foot nothing umpire for what seemed like minutes until also getting the boot. He was escorted off the field and subsequently out of the stadium by security, spending the rest of the game at the nearby knock off local Dairy Queen.

Sidebar… imagine going to your local ice cream shop and seeing a near 7 foot tall guy in full baseball uniform eating an oreo mint blizzard by himself, for 2 hours… back to the story.

25 years later, in hindsight, probably a slight overreaction by my father… but hey, its travel baseball.

I know the family of the bride for the Lake Nona wedding well. One of the bride’s sisters married one of my best friends. They got engaged in Provence before meeting up with us at the 2018 Ryder Cup and the father of the bride tagged along with us at Le Golf National. Randomly saw the bride and groom for the Lake Nona wedding in Asheville the night they got engaged. We stayed at the father of the bride’s house in Lake Nona a couple years back and, ironically, he got us on Isleworth because Lake Nona was closed. I’ve had a lot of fun with him, but he can be prickly. I have no doubt it was a short conversation when Lake Nona called and asked him to move his daughter’s wedding on short notice during a pandemic.

Also, they had a didgeridoo player at their house Sunday night for a post-wedding family dinner. Really wish that would have been earlier in the day. Randy and DJ could have heard some dude ripping didge off one of the fairways while they were walking the course.

Here’s the text message I got from my buddy when I sent him a link to the TrapDraw. Have to admit, he points out a clear blindspot by @Tron and @Randy assuming these were Orlando locals. Everyone knows Lake Nona is international-heavy. Melanie & Alfredo send their regards.

Shout-out Jeff Blake, the best QB in ECU history.

I’m just more convinced there needs to be a perfect club episode on the expos (94 expos in particular). They could at least effort the alpha Big Randy (Johnson)

Just a shame Andres Galarraga the true Big Cat was gone by then.

Imagine having the gall to walk this earth going by “Big Randy” while Randy Johnson is breathing.
